Wi-Fi access points

Letter to Residences re Wi-Fi access points

The University is in the process of upgrading its network infrastructure in order to improve ICT Network across all campuses. This initiative is known as “Project Quantum” which is being rolled out until 28 February 2018.

Currently Wits ICT, with its implementing partner Datacentrix, are installing Wi-Fi access points in residences and other academic buildings that were identified as priority areas due to the current limited network coverage. Approximately 9300 Wi-Fi access points will be installed across the university.

These points will start functioning once supporting infrastructure has been fully deployed and commissioned. Wi-Fi access points are just one component of this massive project which includes:

· Core, Server Connectivity and Distribution

· Access (User Connectivity)

· Wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi)

· Test and repair of all existing network points

· Upgrading of networks points which does not meet the required standards

· Testing, repair and upgrade of the fibre infrastructure across the campus

We thank you for your patience during this project which will improve access, speed and network stability across campus.

Thank you

Wits ICT
